1. Balos Lagoon
No trip to Chania is complete without visiting Balos. This stunning lagoon, where the Sea of Crete meets the Libyan Sea, features shallow turquoise waters and unique pink-white sand. Access is via a dirt road and a 20-minute downhill hike — but the views are absolutely worth it.

2. Elafonissi Beach
A natural wonder where pink coral sand meets crystal-clear waters. The beach is actually a small island you can wade to, creating a series of shallow pools perfect for families with children.
Best for: Families, pink sand, shallow warm waters
3. Falassarna Beach
Five consecutive bays of golden sand facing west — making Falassarna the sunset capital of Crete. The main beach is well-organized with sunbeds, while the northern bays remain wild and uncrowded.
Best for: Sunsets, surfing, long walks
4. Seitan Limania
A dramatic narrow cove wedged between towering cliffs. The approach down the steep zigzag path adds to the adventure. The enclosed bay creates remarkably calm, deep-blue waters.
Best for: Adventure seekers, cliff jumping, snorkeling
5. Marathi Beach
A local favorite just 15 minutes from Chania. This small, sheltered bay has calm waters, excellent fish tavernas right on the sand, and a lovely relaxed atmosphere far from the tourist crowds.
